Go back to Flame Relay stages

Stage 10: Berlin

In Berlin, the torch passed through iconic landmarks and sporting venues, led by well-known athletes and personalities. A highlight was the university relay, featuring creative and tech-driven elements like a robotic hand and exoskeleton. The journey ended in style as the flame crossed the finish line of the Berlin Half Marathon.

From Wannsee to the Finish Line – Berlin’s Flame of Passion

In the German capital, the torch lit up Berlin’s most iconic spots with flair and energy. Former tennis pro turned artist Elisa Klinkenberg led the way at the East Side Gallery, while diver Elena Wassen showcased the flame at the SSE and under the open sky. Swimming legend Britta Steffen carried it through the historic halls of Humboldt University, and influencer Maren Schiller brought a sporty sparkle to the Victory Column.

A standout highlight was the university torch relay. The Freie Universität carried the flame over land and water along the scenic shores of Wannsee, passing it on to diver Waldsteiner and taekwondo referee Ai Ouynh Vo, who then handed it over to the RISE exoskeleton team.

Innovation took centre stage at the Berlin University of Applied Sciences, where a robotic hand proudly carried the torch. Student Elena Wassen returned to represent the University of Applied Sciences for Engineering and Economics, joined by the HTW motorsport team. At Humboldt University, football-playing robots made the perfect fusion of sport and technology.

The grand finale? A spectacular finish as Humboldt’s Vice President Niels Pinkwart and track athlete Leo Köpp carried the flame across the finish line of the Berlin Half Marathon – a powerful symbol of unity, innovation, and athletic spirit.
