Venue Plaque for the Opening Ceremony: Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena is officially on board!
On July 16, the Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena will take center stage as the venue for the spectacular Opening Ceremony of the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games – and now it's official! Just before kick-off in the match between MSV Duisburg and 1. FC Bocholt, Sina Diekmann, Chief of Sports for Rhine-Ruhr 2025, presented the official venue plaque to Duisburg’s Lord Mayor Sören Link and MSV Managing Director Michael Preetz.
Mayor Link proudly accepted the plaque and recalled that Duisburg already got a taste of Universiade spirit back in 1989: “We’re proud to once again be hosting this unique multi-sport event – and this time it’s bigger than ever!”
Michael Preetz was equally thrilled: “To see such an incredible celebration like the Opening Ceremony taking place in our home arena – where MSV plays week after week – is just amazing!”
And this celebration is going to be one to remember: Alongside the athletes' parade featuring participants from around 150 countries, an unforgettable show awaits – with top acts like Ayliva, Montez, and Querbeat, who will take the stage together with the WDR Funkhausorchester for a one-of-a-kind performance.
Tickets for the Opening Ceremony and all competitions are available here.
The venue plaques are a symbol of appreciation, awarded to all competition and event venues that are helping to make Rhine-Ruhr 2025 a huge success. Duisburg is ready – and we’re counting the days!
