What Are NFC Tap Points?
NFC (Near Field Communication) Tap Points are contactless, touch-sensitive tags placed at key locations across all venues. When you hold your NFC-enabled smartphone near one of these Tap Points, it instantly opens an overlay version of the EXP-App tailored to your current location and time – don't forget to activate NFC in your phone to access this feature.
There is no need to search in an app store or install anything—just tap and view.
What You Can Access by Tapping?
Each Tap Point unlocks real-time, location-specific content, including quick access to:
Live event schedules and updates, filtered to your venue
Venue maps with navigation and facility markers
Food and beverage options near your location
Live competition results from official data feeds
Event highlights based on the day and time
An optional AI assistant designed to support spectators with instant answers to frequently asked questions
This content is updated dynamically and curated to reduce information overload, giving you only what’s most useful at that moment and place.
Where do I find Tap Points?
Tap Points are clearly marked and strategically located in high-traffic areas, such as:
Venue entrances and exits
Seating zones
Food courts and beverage areas
Info Points and printed venue maps
They are also indicated on official maps available online and as display stands in the venues.
1. Enable NFC on Your Smartphone
For iPhone Users:
iPhone XS and newer: NFC is always on and runs in the background. No setup is needed.
iPhone 7, 8, X: Requires manual activation of the NFC Tag Reader:
Go to Settings > Control Center
Add NFC Tag Reader
To scan, swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen to open Control Center and tap the NFC icon before holding the phone near a Tap Point.
For Android Users:
Go to Settings > Connected devices > Connection preferences > NFC and toggle it on.
For some brands (e.g., Samsung, Google Pixel), NFC settings may appear under Settings > Connections or Settings > More Connection Settings.
NFC is available on most Android phones manufactured in the last five years. Check your phone’s manual or settings if unsure.
2. Tap the NFC Tag
Hold your phone near the Tap Point (typically up to a few cm away). For best results:
Use the top edge of iPhones and the back center of most Android phones.
Wait a moment for your device to vibrate or beep, confirming the tag was read.
3. Explore the Event Experience App
Once tapped, your browser will open the EXP-App automatically, displaying relevant information for your current location. From there, you can:
Navigate venue maps
See live results
Discover food options
Ask the optional built-in AI chatbot for help
The interface is optimized for mobile and available in both English and German.
No personal data is collected or stored when you use Tap Points. The NFC tags are read-only and cannot access or alter anything on your device. The system is fully GDPR-compliant. The EXP-App is designed to be accessible and inclusive, tested on a wide range of modern smartphones.
If your phone is incompatible, volunteers can assist you or provide navigation help. Alternatively, you can download the official Rhine Ruhr 2025 FISU WUG Games Time app to get some of the information.
If the NFC Tap Point does not trigger:
Ensure NFC is enabled in your phone’s settings.
Hold the correct part of your device over the Tap Point for 1–2 seconds.
Try repositioning slightly—NFC antennas vary by device.
Restart your phone or check for system updates if nothing happens.
Still having issues? Visit a nearby Info Point or ask one of our trained volunteers with yellow captain’s armbands, who can assist with troubleshooting or provide alternate access.
